SCRITTI Politti is a "group" of just one person by the name of Green. Scritti's superb new single Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin) looks like being a hit and here Green discuss his style:

NAME: My real surname is Strohmeyer-Gartside. When I was at school in Caerphilly I got fed up having an ordinary Christian name--I won't tell you what it is. I sat on a train and decided I would change it. Everything was green outside so that was it.

HOME: An inordinately expensive flat on the top of a Georgian house in a very nice square in Islington. The living room has some ratty old antiques and looks like a Harley Street doctor's waiting room.

ROMANCE: I live with my girlfriend Sue. She studies law, something I always wanted to do, and I think I probably will one day.

FASHION: My favourite clothes are by Katherine Hamnett and Scott Crolla. I have just desigend a suit with Crolla. It's made from expensive blue velvet treated with acid which makes it look like the contours of a map.

MUSIC: The only records I like at the moment are hip-hop and electro boogie from New York like Afrika Bambaata, Run DMC, and the B Boys. I think it's the most exciting stuff since punk because it is cheap to make and you only need a drum machine and an afternoon in a cheap studio.

HOBBIES: I like reading books on British wildlife, sex, power and the law. I also like getting horribly drunk all the time.
